Embedded Software Engineer

Spectrum Controls is looking for an Embedded Software Engineer who loves to get their hands dirty twiddling bits, hooking up O-scopes, and bringing up boards. Be responsible for all aspects of software creation, from specification to coding to production release.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must have lots of experience in C programming for real time embedded systems. Other skills should include knowledge of compilers, linkers, and debuggers, and hands on experience with hardware test equipment. Hardware design knowledge or experience will also help.

We are looking for a well-organized, self-motivated individual who plays well with others. Must be able to assimilate quickly into a small design team and make immediate contributions. It helps to be a “self-starter” with good project management skills, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and troubleshooting embedded software for high precision analog data acquisition modules and communication protocols for industrial products.

This position typically requires a BSEE, BSCE, or equivalent and five years development experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the following areas is desired:

  • Embedded software development on 8,16, and 32 bit MPU’s, with and without an RTOS.

  • Serial port protocols for RS-232 and, RS-485.

  • Industrial communications protocols, BacNet, TCP/IP.

  • Data acquisition & control, using precision ADC’s and DAC’s.

  • Temperature measurement using thermocouples, RTDs and CJCs.

  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Industrial Automation applications.

  • Windows Apps, using Visual Studio, Visual C++, C#.

Hardware Design Engineer

Spectrum Controls, Inc., a growing product leadership company providing electronic instrumentation and communication devices to the Industrial automation market, has an opening for a mid-level to senior level Hardware Design Engineer.  Entry level engineers with solid design experience will also be considered.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Spectrum Controls designs and manufactures communications and high precision instrumentation devices that meet the robust reliability requirements of the industrial controls marketplace. The successful candidate will be a well-organized and self-motivated team player who works well with others and has good multi-tasking time management skills.  Candidate should have at least three years of hardware design experience designing analog instrumentation and digital embedded systems.  

Job responsibilities span initial product feasibility studies through production release.  Technical skills should include design, debug & verification of embedded systems, with the ability to solve technical problems involving analog and digital circuits and systems.  Hardware design experience is essential and embedded firmware design skills are highly desirable.  This position typically requires a BSEE or equivalent and at least 3 years of design experience. Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.

EXPERIENCE:

Experience in the following areas is required:

  • Analog circuit design – Signal conditioning, multiplexers, ADC, and DAC’s.

  • Digital circuit design - Embedded real-time 8,16, & 32 bit MPU’s

  •  FPGA and CPLD design experience.

  • Low noise isolated power supply design.

  •  Design experience meeting low EMI emissions and low EMI susceptibility requirements.

Experience in the following areas is desired:

  • Experience using analog and digital design simulation and signal integrity tools.

  • Experience using Altium Designer or equivalent

  • Knowledge of “C” programming on embedded systems would be helpful.

  • Knowledge of UL and CE design requirements for Industrial products would be helpful.

  • Industrial control equipment - Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Ladder Logic.

  •  Industrial controls communication drivers for Ethernet, RS-485, CAN, Profibus.

  • Industrial instrumentation - Analog I/O modules, Temp. Sensors, Counters, and Flow Meters.
