Spectrum Controls Announces New  Modules with HART Protocol for ControlLogix Platform

Maximize performance with real-time data from process instrumentation and operate a smart network

September 10, 2002 Bellevue, Washington — Spectrum Controls, Inc., the leading manufacturer of hardware and software for the industrial controls marketplace, is pleased to announce the addition of an 8 channel analog input module and an 8 channel analog output module with HART protocol. These modules were specifically designed for compatibility with Rockwell Automation’s Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 1756 I/O chassis. Product release is scheduled for Q4 2002.

These new powerful modules provide ControlLogix PLCs with full analog capability and the benefit of HART (highway addressable remote transducer) protocol in one I/O module. The 1756sc-IF8H and 1756sc-OF8H Analog I/O Modules maximize I/O performance by combining real-time HART data acquisition in conjunction with standard analog acquisition and control—at a fraction of the cost.

Each module also acts as a HART master, allowing communication with HART field devices. Field devices may be interfaced directly to the module, eliminating the expense of additional external HART bridge devices or hand-held communicators. When used in conjunction with an asset management system (AMS), the 1756sc-IF8H and 1756sc-OF8H provide configuration, calibration, diagnostics and troubleshooting of smart field devices from a desktop PC. This ability can increase product quality and minimize unplanned downtime, while improving the productivity and profitability of the process.

The 1756sc-IF8H and 1756sc-OF8H Analog I/O Modules with HART Protocol reduce wiring and simplify maintenance. Setup is convenient and easy with support from RSLogix 5000 programming software. The result is maximum data access with a low total cost-of-ownership.
