Dairy/Food
Application
A major
cheese processor is measuring the volume before
and after a separator (similar to a centrifuge) using mass
flow-meters with HART. Each flowmeter is capable of gathering
several different variables including flow rate, density,
temperature and totalized volume. These measurements can then be
used to calculate the efficiency of the separator.
Without
the Spectrum Controls Analog I/O Module with HART Protocol, the
manufacturer would have had only a few options available to gather
this data. Each was costly and complicated.
Options
considered were: using a remote I/O solution, which is complicated
and cumbersome; a non Allen-Bradley solution which would require a
third party PLC or PC data retrieval system; or finally placing
extra analog sensors into the system to gather the variables. The
Spectrum Controls Analog I/O HART Module offered a simple,
cost-effective and flexible solution.
