APPLICATION NOTE:  Batching in the Beverage Industry with the Spectrum Controls 1746sc-CTR4/8 counter / flow meter module.

A major soft drink company based in Atlanta, Georgia, with branches worldwide, uses the Spectrum Controls 1746sc-CTR4 counter / flow meter module for batching. The application uses the Allen-Bradley SLC500 PLC as their main control system.

The heart of the batching system is a series of flow meters that carefully measure the ingredients of a proprietary beverage formula. The 1746sc-CTR4 monitors the pulses from these devices, which is correlated to flow and volume via the use of module scaling factors. The accuracy of the metering is critical in order to maintain uniformity in taste and consistency of the final product.

For maximum repeatability the CTR module closely monitors the mixing of high fructose corn syrup and precise amounts of water. Two flow meters are currently connected to the module for each batching process. With four (4) or eight (8) channels available, multiple batching systems may be monitored by one card. This significantly reduces installation costs.

The plant supervisor selected the Spectrum Controls 1746sc-CTR4 for its high channel density and its ease of configuration.

Spectrum Controls counter / flow meter modules offer high accuracy and low price-per-point allowing you to increase system performance, reduce operating costs, and improve reliability.
